Short Stories for Children

I actually love to paint pictures more than writing stories. But I was thinking, I would love to try on being a children's book illustrator, for that, I need to know how a good story flows with words too. Such that visually, I can create lively and spontaneous characters that seem to leap out of the pages into the young readers' minds. It would not be just the words, but the pictures filled with brilliant colours will have an irresistible power to draw the young and adults alike.

So here I am, trying to pen down a simple short story for children age 6-9. Wish me luck in the process! :)

Guides/Templates to help me along:

Target readers's age group: 3-6 years old
Title of Story: (still thinking about it)
Length: 60 Words
Story Outline:
Lesson Learnt/ What a child will most remember about this story:(E.g.jumping frogs, pouncing tigers etc)
Key words in the story: Actions words animals associations

*--Bear in mind the extent of vocabulary of the targeted readers

**--Must the words rhyme etc.?

***--Will there be a next volume? Will this form a series?

Brainstorming words: (havent decided what to write about..gotta choose from the followings...)

1Primary Subjets (skeletal framework)
people, family, animals, plants, indoors, outdoors (adventure) , trees, plants, flowers, fruits, sky, insects, peoples, occasions like birthday...

2 Secondary elements for considerations(content development)
elements of surprise, out of the ordinary, problem solving situation, mystery, good versus bad, happy ever after?,
